Dead Sea Scrolls, the new solo album by the band Spain bassist & vocalist Josh Haden, was released today exclusively via BandCamp.

Dead Sea Scrolls is the follow-up to Josh Haden's 2006 Dan The Automator-produced debut solo album Devoted. Dead Sea Scrolls is quite a change from Devoted, however, using lo-fi treated, religious-themed vocals, warbly bass guitar tones and neo-apocalyptic sound effects in place of drum loops and neo-soul crooning.

A 2013 solo tour as Dead Sea Scrolls is being planned.

Los Angeles, CA – July 16, 2012 – Omnivore Recordings has announced they will release the classic 1995 debut album from Spain The Blue Moods Of Spain, 1999 follow up release She Haunts My Dreams, and 2001s third full-length album I Believe all for the first time on vinyl, available in stores and online August 28. The special LP-only reissue releases of Spain’s three studio albums will be available as a limited edition first run on 180-gram colored vinyl, with an edition total of 1,000 copies per album. The Blue Moods Of Spain, a 2LP set featuring a rare b-side as a bonus track, will be issued on translucent blue vinyl; She Haunts My Dreams on clear vinyl; and I Believe on translucent orange vinyl. Once the limited-edition 180-gram colored vinyl sells out, all three albums will be available as an open edition LP pressed on 180-gram black vinyl. A musical endeavor long overdue, and fully realized for the first time, experience Spain as it was meant to be heard – on vinyl!

Spain, the musical brainchild of Josh Haden, released three universally lauded and groundbreaking albums during the late 1990s into the early 2000s, touring across the U.S., Europe and Australia. The group featured Josh alongside his sisters Tanya Haden (Silversun Pickups), Petra Haden (Beck, The Decemberists), and drummer Joey Waronker (R.E.M., Beck, Smashing Pumpkins) among other world-class players.

To celebrate the release, Spain has announced a special album release party on August 28 at the Bootleg Bar in Los Angeles, reuniting Josh, Petra, Tanya and Rachel Haden performing alongside a slate of special guests. Mike Watt + The Missing Men have been confirmed to open the show.

Creating near-melancholic, dreamy atmospheric melodies, Spain’s sound reflected jazz and pop influences, while decidedly staking their claim as a compelling rock band. The band’s sound and moody arrangements began to expand over time from their intimate debut to the more upbeat and rootsy I Believe, before disbanding after its release in 2001.

Collaborators aside, Spain is about Josh creating three amazing albums that may very well have slipped through the populous cracks the first time they were released. Prepare yourself for what you might have missed or relive how you thought it should be.

Und Josh Haden beweist wieder einmal seine Fähigkeiten als Songschreiber kontemplativer Epen wie "Only One", die ihre Schönheit entfalten wie ein langsam aufklarender Himmel. Klanglich wie textlich scheint sich hier alles immer an einer Erkenntnis aufzuhängen, zu stagnieren im Moment der Beobachtung: "I hear the leaves rustling/ I hear the thunder rolling in/ But your love came strolling in without a sound", singt Haden mit mönchischem Gleichmut. The band Spain's brand new album, "The Soul Of Spain", will be released in the U.S. on May 8, 2012, initially on iTunes exclusively, with a physical release to follow.

Featuring founding member and bassist/vocalist Josh Haden, lead guitarist Daniel Brummel, keyboardist/guitarist Randy Kirk, drummer Matt Mayhall, co-production with Billy Burke (Ozma), vocal/cello/violin appearances by the Haden Triplets (Rachel, Petra, and Tanya) and Light FM's Ihui Wu, cover photography by Dave Naz, and featuring cover model Oriana Small (aka former adult film actress Ashley Blue), the album took two years to complete and marks the band's first album of new material in over ten years.

It will be released concurrently in Europe via Glitterhouse Records.

Blue Moods Of Spain: A History, Pt. 1 is the first in a series of releases which are meant to detail the history of the band Spain from their inception in 1993 through 2001, when they temporarily disbanded. Recently two new pledge levels have been created for Spain's Kickstarter.com "I'm Still Free" 7" project.

For a pledge of $25, you get a signed copy of the 7" mailed to you, your name listed in the "thank you" section on the back of the disc jacket, AND a signed copy of the limited second edition "I'm Still Free" CD single.

For a pledge of $50 or more (which we're calling the "Fan Gift Pack"), a gift recipient of your choice gets a signed copy of the 7" with their name listed in the "thank you" section, a signed copy of the "I'm Still Free" CD, one signed copy each of Josh's 2004 solo CD EP "Light of Day" and Josh's 2007 solo CD "Devoted", and a personal note written to the recipient by Josh himself.

Many of you have already made pledges towards the 7" and your help is much appreciated. If you haven't already made a pledge, or if perhaps you'd like to make a pledge for a friend, we hope you can take a few moments and check out the "I'm Still Free" Kickstarter page, there are several different pledge levels for all kinds of budgets and each one will help to put the "I'm Still Free" single on vinyl, the way it was supposed to have been in the first place. The band Spain has decided to partner with Kickstarter.com and appeal directly to their fans for support in manufacturing their "I'm Still Free" single to 7" vinyl.

At Spain's page on Kickstarter, there are different levels of involvement within which the fan can participate in the manufacturing of the 7", starting at $10 for a copy of the disc, to $15 for an autographed copy, to $20 for an autographed copy and the fan's name printed in the thank you notes on the back of the 7" jacket as a way of thanking them for their support. Once a pledge is made, the fan will get access to exclusive messages and updates on how the progress of the manfacturing is going. Also on the website is a short video of bassist/vocalist Josh Haden explaining the project, with a surprise guest appearance by his cat Dexter.
