It’s hard to believe that almost five years ago I bumped into my old SST labelmate Joe Baiza, was it at Stories Books & Cafe on Sunset? And soon after that Baiza was sitting in with Spain on a Tuesday night of our weekly residency at the Love Song Bar on Main Street downtown, with frequent collaborator saxophonist Matt DeMerritt, and the core band of myself, Kenny, Shon, and Danny, and the French band La Femme playing in the main theatre. Spaceland Production’s and old friend Liz Garo was there, Jose and crew (Joel and Johnny B.), Myke Adams making an appearance, the Gaylord contingent, Wild Stares guitarist Justin Burrill, all the venerable Love Song barflies, Love Song manager Ryan Qualls running the sound and bar, mad scientist Nate Pottker behind the microphones and bringing it all together. Afterwards a reveler from the La Femme show came up to me. Are you Josh Haden? Of the band Spain? I’ll be back!
