We left immediately after the Portland gig. Drove through the night. Stopped at a motel early in the morning and slept a few hours. Arrived in Santa Cruz for soundcheck.

Rio Theatre opened in 1949. It has 650 seats. On 17 June 2001 about 20 were filled. The songs we played were mostly from our then-new third album, I Believe. The tour started nine days earlier in L.A. with a KCRW performance and a date at the now-defunct Knitting Factory, followed by shows in San Francisco, Seattle, and Portland. The only recordings are from Santa Cruz and KCRW. Spain wouldn’t play again until 2007.
